Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test next week, so we did a lot of practice applying the present subjunctive. She seems to know the conjugations very well. She simply needs to review the vocabulary again before her test."
"We went over the vocabulary of chapter 9: sports, leisure time, and recreation vocabulary. The student studied these words and was tested on them; he did very well!"
"The student worked on a large list of vocabulary pertaining to fruits, vegetables, and directions, that we practiced written and orally."
"We covered conjugation of stem-changing er/ir verbs such as querer, and we talked about vocabulary of a restaurant. We took a get to know you quiz so I can more effectively teach the student. We talked about ser vs. estar. He quickly grasps the topics I teach him, especially vocabulary. I think verb conjugation practice would be helpful, and I will come up with a way to make that entertaining for him. I quizzed him a lot and we did mini-reviews to make sure he could do the skills. I told him to study his vocabulary."
"We covered conjugation of a number of verbs the student wishes to use, directions vocab to permit more in-depth direction-giving or receiving, review of present tense -ar verbs for different personal pronouns, conjugations and uses of ser vs. estar, review of Spanish sayings learned, two new Spanish sayings, how to use open-ended questions to elicit longer/deeper conversations. Conjugations just takes lots of practice. He is willing to practice and I am happy to see him already correcting past errors or self-correcting - - always a positive indicator. Great attitude. One strategy is simply stretching the length of time he stays in Spanish. He does well, and works it. I will send him extra practice several times a week, both what I'm working toward his achieving (correct conjugations, vocab increase) and what he is wanting (both that, and specific phrases he wishes to communicate or receive communication on)."
"We worked on the present tense verbs and started the preterit tense verbs. The student struggled at the beginning with the preterit tense verb conjugations but towards the end was really starting to get it and understand it. The student had a very good attitude and was determined to learn the material. I left the student with a few websites for him to practice with verb conjugations, which should definitely help by giving him more practice. I look forward to working with him again on Monday."
