Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Worked on Mathematical sentences, interpreting science graphs. Also practiced 3 English and 2 reading passages. Needs to work on inferences and reading."
"Today the student and I continued working through the math portion of the ACT. He is coming along well in terms of staying positive. I encourage him to keep this up! As far as the content itself, he continues to demonstrate a strong understanding of what's being tested. He's a little rusty on a couple of the concepts (i.e. geometry formulas), but this is expected and it is nothing a little refresher won't correct. We also put together an overall game plan for the summer. We will focus on one portion of the exam for two weeks at a time (i.e. the first two weeks math, the second two weeks English, etc.). The student and I agreed that it would be best to zero in on one piece at time and then come back to it after looking at the other portions of the exam. As far as homework for our next session on Monday, I asked him to complete the math section of the second full length exam in the Prep Guide."
"The student is starting ACT prep quite early, so we just started to review each section and how the test is structured."
"Introductions. Discussion that math can be creative, but it has a strong reliance on discipline and applying rules/principles. The student's last quiz had several simple errors. We discussed the advantages of solving each problem in an organized way at a pace that she could easily see next steps and avoid errors. We practiced problems from the past quiz and current homework, and she had remaining homework to practice between sessions. She has a test coming up. I look forward to working with her in future sessions to make her more comfortable with this subject."
"We went over more test logistics as well as beginning with vocabulary. We practiced vocabulary and I gave her some homework for this evening. We talked about breaking study sessions into chunks of about 20 minutes and using an online quiz site as a way to study vocabulary words."
"Yesterday the student and I continued moving forward with her online algebra course. We reviewed the next section of her Module 4 assessment, which covered exponential equations and how to write them from data tables. In addition, the assessment covered arithmetic and geometric sequences as well as how to write those sequences in function notation given sets of data points. The student did very well on the multiple-choice section of the assessment, earning a score of 100%. The word problems proved more challenging for her, but she was able to arrive at the solutions through determination and careful reading of the provided information in each of the word problems."
