"We covered the quantitative reasoning section of the GRE, including some advice with how to approach the verbal section. She is taking a quick online test tomorrow to better judge how her score may be improving. She is struggling with, essentially, remembering all of the concepts and how to apply them - we'll work on increasing her conceptual knowledge so that she can better understand how the numbers work and how to approach problems. Her practice will be to do various problem sets in her book, so that we can go over her approach to those problems."
"Today the student and I went over her last practice test, discussed data analysis questions (mean, median, a little bit of mode, range, etc.) and covered the Venn Diagram questions. She'll be taking a practice test before our next meeting."
"We worked exclusively on the quantitative section today, specifically focusing on quadratic equations, functions, and application problems. We then talked about a test date, and settled on November 15th at this point. With quadratic equations we discussed the quadratic formula, and methods to factor formulas. With a bit of practice, the student shouldn't have any difficulty with these problems. Functions had been a bit intimidating to her prior to this session, so we talked about what notation the questions use and how to visualize functions on a graph. She got a definite grasp on them by the end of the session, and I don't foresee them being a problem moving forward. Looking at application problems was how we spent the majority of this session. The math being hidden within the text has proved somewhat problematic thus far, so we talked about methods of clarifying for what the question was asking. Writing down units was a method we focused on, as well as reading the last sentence of the paragraph carefully for what the question is actually asking. We definitely made some significant inroads, and with practice she should be able to do well on these."
