Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Algebra: We went through the student's homework (solving polynomial equations by factoring) pretty quickly. Other than explaining the Zero Product Rule, he seemed to understand the lesson well. Afterwards, we went ahead and I introduced him to a few related topics that had not yet been taught in class (Difference of Squares, Quadratic Equation). We practiced using all three to solve equations for roots. Biology: Briefly went over RNA translation, which they are learning in class. We watched a few animated videos for better understanding and reviewed concepts."
"Today we worked on the graphing circles. The student seemed to understand the material very well and was able to figure out how to manipulate the equations with little help. She has a little trouble with negative numbers, but she is improving."
"The student is learning how to manipulate rational expressions involving polynomials. He is quickly seeing that it is the same as normal fraction math, but the numerical factors are now the factors present after factoring the polynomials. He is doing much better on his own. With some more practice I believe he will have full mastery of the concept. Also, he is making many less small errors! This is good since it should help his exam scores."
"We continued our work on conics. We found the foci, vertex, directrix, axis symmetry and value of p given the equation of the parabola. Inversely, we wrote the standard form of a parabola given two of the following, foci, vertex, directrix, axis symmetry and value of p."
"We talked about how to solve systems of equations by graphing. We worked on graphing and identifying systems that had one solution, no solution, or an infinite number of solutions. We talked briefly about fractions and will work on that more next time as needed."
"For this session, the first hour was spent going over a few different concepts from the book that the student didn't feel entirely comfortable with, specifically quadratic functions. The next hour was spent going over a final exam review for the student. We worked through problems such as linear equations and linear inequalities. We also did some more work on quadratic equations. I believe that the student is doing a great job of understanding the material, and it's now just a matter of making sure he doesn't make any small mistakes."
