Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's thermochemistry study guide in preparation for his test. I noticed that he would miss the negative signs sometimes, so I added some notes to his study guide saying where and when to put them. This will hopefully remind him that the negative signs are important, and he will make sure to include them on his test."
"We went over free response questions. The student went to his teacher's review sessions and realized that he needs to practice more FRQ, especially on evolution. I tried to find as many practice FRQ for him to work on. He is doing well; his broad knowledge in biology should serve him well on free response questions."
"The student had a test the next day. We focused on complex (combination of parallel and series) circuits but we also revisited some older topics that may resurface in the test like Coulomb's force and electric potential."
"The student had several questions on electricity and magnetism today. Most of these questions moved beyond the point-charge problems and dealt with continuous distributions. She struggled a little with these problems because she has not covered integration in her calculus class, so she has a lot to learn about the mechanics of integrals. Particularly, I need to reinforce the concept of differential elements and the importance of dx-type variables. We will continue to go over these concepts at our next session. Otherwise, she is getting more comfortable with charge in general and is improving her intuitive grasp of situations."
"The student and I spent our last session together going over two of her labs based on rotational motion. From what I could understand the problem that she had was not with the concept- she understands it pretty well. Her issue was with trying to figure out what the lab was based on, how to calculate the necessary values, and what was actually being measured. We went over each problem, deciphered the given data, confirmed that her long derivation was correct (that in particular was very impressive!), and found the mistake that was affecting all of the other answers. The labs were understood and mostly complete at the end of our time."
"Last week, we went over certain aspects of gene regulation and cell signaling pathways, which the student wanted to go over after class. We followed along with her AP review book and used supplemental materials/ animation to better illustrate the processes and their significance."
