Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued to discuss revisions to the student's rough draft. Today, she nearly finished the introduction section of her paper. We will work on more of it tomorrow."
"Student 1: Today he and I discussed his NJHS essay. He ended up with a cohesive and well-written essay by the end of the session and is incredibly excited about it. While he was correcting the grammar mistakes, I looked over his Math homework. He got all of the questions correct and is really grasping the concept of slope. Finally, I looked at an English project he has due. I had him to email me the essay, and I am going to look at it later on and provide him feedback via email. Student 2: He told me that he has a Social Studies test tomorrow. He seemed very anxious about the essay he had to write for part of the test. To help him feel more at ease, we devoted our tutoring time to doing a free write about the topic his teacher told them the essay would cover. As a reward for his good behavior and dedication, I allowed him to type the essay on the computer. At the end of the session, he was feeling much more confident about writing his essay on the test tomorrow and seemed much more at ease."
"The student did a good job tonight on his prep school essays. He has an assignment to complete before we meet on Monday and I look forward to seeing what he's completed."
"We reviewed spelling words we were going over, and I then helped the student identify which homophone she's meant to spell based off of context clues. We then attempted to read Macy the Elephant. I've decided that this text is going to be a goal for us to strive to finish by the time I'm done tutoring her."
"We reviewed the "Nutmeg" book summaries, and I had the student pick books that interested her. I will bring a selection to next session. We completed lessons for 3rd and 4th grade reading online and started using vocabulary lists to improve word recognition."
"We reviewed the 4 times table and I assigned her the 6 times table for our next session. We then did some subtraction problems involving five- and six-digit numbers. We finished up by working on some reading comprehension passages. The student had no problem answering the questions, and we went into more depth with one of the readings, which involved the concepts of latitude and longitude."
