Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on her biology and geometry final exam review packets. We completed several pages in geometry and discussed chapters 1-3 in biology."
"Today we reviewed concepts from the review packet. I had the student go over multiple units including cell division, respiration, photosynthesis, diffusion, and chemical interaction."
"Today we covered photosynthesis, aerobic respiration, anaerobic respiration, mitosis and other topics to be covered on her final exam."
"Today we finished the student's biology review packet and went over some of the material for a second time. We started review for his math final, doing practice problems I took from former tests."
"The student and I studied for his biology exam tomorrow. We went through the study guide and I quizzed him on the questions. The ones he didn't know as well were looked up in his notes and textbook."
"We covered Mendelian genetics and did a review of factoring. I emphasized to her the importance of doing practice problems for math. I know she can do it, she just needs to practice!"
"In this session, the student and I practiced and reviewed for his biology test tomorrow. We started by reading the section questions at the end of each section of his book, and trying to answer them. I realized that this method was not the most effective, since he was unclear about a few topics, so we started over and went through the sections and he wrote down key vocabulary terms. We then discussed and he defined each term, and drew pictures of key processes like DNA replication and transcription/ translation. After going through all of these words, we went to the end of the chapter and did some practice questions from there. The student informed me that his teacher said the test would be just multiple choice, so we focused on those questions. Next we went online to his book's website and he did a few interactive activities, as well as the section quizzes. Finally, I found an extensive DNA review test on an outside website, and he worked through most of the questions on there. By the end of the session, he was definitely more comfortable answering different questions. I gave him the vocabulary review sheet, as well as a few questions on transcription and translation processes that he could use to practice."
"We reviewed the student's recent practice tests. Areas covered included the nitrogen and phosphorus cycles, cell division and muscle contraction. We also reviewed test taking strategies."
"Today I met with Student A first. We went over adding/ subtracting fractions, which he has recently been learning in school. He has a good command over the topic. We then went over improper fractions, multiplying fractions, and multiplying mixed numbers. He is a fast learner and seemed to understand everything relatively easily. We will continue to practice and build up his confidence. Student B and I went over the topic of mitosis, which he recently had a quiz on. He seemed to have a decent idea about the entire process, but hadn't spent much time effort learning the specifics of each phase. I went through all the phases with him, then had him explain it back to me with pictures. He had a much better understanding, but still needs to review it some more, I think. We then went over his recent quiz, which included a few other topics including cellular respiration and osmosis."
"Today, the student and I reviewed the three versions of proving triangles were congruent, SAS/SSS/AAS. I wrote three problems that he was able to complete successfully with minimal help in the two-column proof format. Additionally, he worked on the formatting and 5 of the 9 sections for his biology semester paper and poster presentation. He set up and typed the formatting of the 14 page paper then identified the statement, hypothesis, variables, procedure, data table, and bibliography in the various documents he had completed for the project prior to today. For our tutoring homework tonight, he will complete two additional geometry proofs and type in the sections of the biology paper we discussed today on his formatted paper template."
"Today we did final preparations for both her biology and algebra exams. The student has done a lot of work in preparation for her final exams and is well prepared."
"Today we reviewed for the student's final. We went through concepts and terms from her review. We then went through test taking techniques as well as study techniques, in creating a note card for the test."
