Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has an algebra exam on Tuesday. We went over basic graphing of linear equations, manipulating equations to standard and slope-intercept forms, and writing equations after analyzing a sequence. We went through a review packet together that the school had provided."
"The student and I reviewed for his quiz on inequalities. We worked on graphing multiple inequalities and finding all the possible solutions. I gave him special instruction to remember about when an inequality has a dash or solid line."
"In this session, I wanted to gauge the student's basic ability, so we worked on a set of diagnostic practice problems covering several different concepts. I think that the student understands many of the algebraic operations well. I enjoyed the meeting because she was genuinely interested in improving her skills. As far as various strategies and study skills are concerned, I introduced a procedure for converting word problems into simple algebraic expressions."
"The student has a test on algebraic fractions tomorrow. He knows what he is doing, and if he stays focused and is thorough, he should do well."
"We reviewed the student's homework, which is still on factoring quadratic expressions. Her teacher introduced her to a new way of solving such equations. The great thing about the student is that if she is confused about something, she has no problem expressing that and asking for clarification. Then, after one explanation or example, she picks it up instantly and can go on to solve other problems on her own."
"We worked more on preparing for the student's final. We started by going over a test that she just got back. She understood all of the concepts that were on the test. Again, she needs to be more diligent when writing formulas and solutions, so that basic arithmetic errors can be avoided. We also went over matrices. She seemed to have a good grasp on them at the end of the session."
