Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student provided a worksheet prior to the session. We covered pretty much every problem for his final exam review. His final is a comprehensive test for all of calculus 2. Specifically, we covered the integral test (for series convergence), functions represented as power series, partial fraction expansion, trig integrals, integration by parts (and the "column" method), trig substitution, area between curves, volumes of revolution (disk and washer methods), arc length, Taylor/ Maclaurin series, limits with Taylor series, limits of sequences, sum of an infinite series (using the geometric series formula), and the root test."
"The student and I reviewed his packet on graphing quadratic equations. He did very well. He got all of it correct except for a couple problems. We then went through his final review packet. He went through previously and circled sections he felt he needed review. I showed him how to solve one of the problems to serve as an example to which he can refer when he tries the rest of the problems. We'll continue our systematic review on Monday."
"The student has a midterm test coming up next week covering chapters 2, 3 and 12. She brought all her old tests and the review. I had her complete the first section of the review and then we went over the old tests, making notes and such. I gave her a study plan and told her to contact me next week if she wanted to meet again before the test."
"We covered the many applications of the unit circle in the student's math research paper. We struggled with getting her to speak freely about the topic so she could type in her own words but her understanding seemed good otherwise."
"In the next two session before midterm, I will go over the key concepts with the student, and study example questions in her text book. She needs to become solid on the basic concepts."
"The main focus of this session was finding solutions to systems of equations using substitution. We also covered mean deviation on the student's bell-work. She is keeping up very well and has a keen understanding of the material. She is working on solidifying her knowledge of systems of equations through experience."
