"The student had a full SAT session last Saturday, so she wasn't able to complete a practice exam like she normally would. However, we didn't finish reviewing her last practice exam, so we continued on that.
We focused mainly on the math section.
Afterwards, we reviewed essay writing. She said that her main problem was that she had problems brainstorming and finding out what to write about in the short amount of time. So, I used some prompts from the prep book and we did some brainstorming practice. All the ideas that she came up, came completely from her, all I did was ask certain who/what/where/when/why/how questions that helped her mind going with ideas. Hopefully, she will be able to do this on her own to come up with some great ideas for the essay."

"We talked about the concepts she's learning in math, and we talked a bit about her course load for the rest of the school year. Olivia also told me about the math camp that she is going to be doing this summer!"
"The student worked almost exclusively on precalc today. Her teacher said to finish the chapter review, so we worked through a few problems from each section in the chapter review that the class has covered. The chapter's material is much more than the teacher has taught, so we didn't do problems from EVERY section, just the ones that their class has learned."
"We reviewed math questions that the student had trouble with in the "charts & crafts" and "math in the real world" chapters of the prep materials. We also began working through practice sections of the prep material."
"We reviewed the student's most recent test, and she realized that most of her mistakes are from mathematical errors (in particular using significant figures) and I have asked her to check with her teacher if she must use sigfigs, or if she can just use regular numbers for her calculations. Overall, she realized that she did know the material well and just needed to pay attention to details during testing. I encourage her to pursue the opportunity to take the test in a separate classroom, and in parts if need be."
"We started reviewing the upcoming chapter to get a head start. This covers the cell theory and the parts of a cell. The following chapter is on the cell and its environment, which we briefly looked at. I am hoping that with getting a head start, she will feel more confident going in to class and also having at least heard it before, it will help her retain it quicker."
"This was our first session. The student and I talked about what he was learning and where he was in the math sequence. We worked on functions and relations as well as order of operations and solving equations."
"The student and I worked on reviewing her semester's material. I made up problems based on the ones on her reviews and she solved them. There weren't many she had a problem with. On the ones she did get stuck on, she didn't need much of a push in the right direction to solve it. She seems like she's been studying hard and is well prepared for her test."
"The student and I continued our coverage of linear algebra. We looked at more augmented matrix solutions, specifically focusing on how to determine when a system will have no solutions, infinitely many solutions, or a unique solution depending on the value of a variable, k. This related to a problem on a previous exam that we looked at, and I was able to help her understand how these problems work based on the rank of the augmented matrix. I also went through the solution of a few other ODEs from previous exams."
"We went through her homework on graphing quadratic functions. Then we went through the next few sections, which dealt with different forms of quadratic equations."
"Today we went over 11.7, finding local minimum, maximum and saddle points on a curve of two variables. I explained the critical points in two variables, second derivative test and then we worked through an example problem. We also went over the set up for several other word problems applying the same concepts."
"We worked on sentence structure for the duration of tonight's session. Thus far in our sessions, the student has been confused by many of the finer points of sentence structure, which is very common among students and nonstudents alike. Tonight however, we were able to go over those points in detail through his own writing, online articles, and sample sentences I put together for him. He made immense strides from the start of the session to its end, correctly identifying mistakes in grammatically incorrect sentences. My hope is that by being able to identify these mistakes in other sentences, he will not make them in his own writing, which we will continue on Sunday."
