Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished practice exam 1 and got through half of practice exam 2 this evening. She indeed retains the material we've gone over before. I encouraged her to continue watching online videos on solving algebra problems and reading the test booklet to explain the problems."
"Topics covered: causation, systems of equations with two variables, elimination method and substitution method. We began with reviewing vocabulary but moved on to practice problems on solving a linear system. She prefers the elimination method over the substitution method. Went over a few cases where one method would be advantageous over the other."
"Today we started with his physics pre-lab. The lab will cover finding the density of several objects, exploring buoyancy forces, and looking at pressure. The pre-lab asked for the definitions of each of the topics being covered along with the equation for calculating them. Then we moved onto algebra. The worksheet we almost completed was more practice in factoring polynomials. He is getting quicker with finding the answer. He occasionally adds when he should multiply but quickly corrects his mistake when asked to look back at it."
"We covered quadratic equations in depth focusing on parabolas and obtaining the standard form and identifying the vertex, axis of symmetry and focal point. I showed the student how to obtain the standard form by completing the square. I explained the degree of a polynomial and demonstrated how to locate all zeros of a polynomial function. We concluded the session with rational functions and locating their vertical asymptotes, as well as addition of polynomials."
"We went over and finished his homework. We worked on factoring, graphing, nesting fractions, and solving systems of equations. We went over and completed his new homework. We also got caught up on his old homework."
"The student is very smart and caught on to the concepts extremely fast. However, I am beginning to notice his problem. He gives up very easily. It's very important for him to complete the assigned practice problems, and I will go over everything else with him next time we meet."
