Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Topics Covered: Review of volume of solids. Progress Achieved: The student has now successfully reviewed and can complete volume of solids problems."
"We studied theories of calculus including the fundamental theorem, mean value theorem, and average value equations. We also worked on finding perpendicular lines at a given point."
"The student's professor gave him some review sheets for the test tomorrow. We went through the sheet and also did appropriate problems out of the book to help him prepare. I provided very clear instructions on how to approach several types of problems that he may see on the exam. At this point, he needs to drill on his own and do several of the problem types without me present. There are many (probably around 3 dozen) equations he will have to commit to memory if he is to perform well on the exam. The professor won't be providing any formulas to the students. He has a bit of work to do, but I think if he drills himself, he should be in pretty good shape. He is getting a high C in the course right now. If he does well on this exam, he puts himself in very good position of passing the course with a solid B or better."
"We reviewed the student's homework for the day involving exponential growth and decay. She seemed to grasp the subject very well. She did most problems with little assistance from me. We also went over a quiz. Upon review of the quiz, I found that her main shortcomings were simple math errors and not fully answering the question. She simply needs to check through all of her work on tests and quizzes more than once. I gave her the strategy of underlining every portion of the question which needs to be answered and, upon second review of the test, check to be sure all parts are answered."
"We worked on lines and planes in 3 dimensions. We talked about finding equations in the form of scalar equations and parametric equations, as well as vector equations. We also went over finding the intersection of lines and planes in 3 dimensions. We also did reviews of dot and cross product, as well as projections of vectors on each other."
"The student and I covered natural log derivatives and integrals. We went through and finished the problems on his review sheet. He knew most of the easier/ medium type questions (U-sub, long division), but with the very difficult and tedious problems, he had some trouble. I was able to explain most of these problems to him. Overall, I think he has a good understanding of the material."
