Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered inequalities, equations, percents, decimals, and mental math strategies. They both did very well and the student only struggled slightly with inequalities because he is not used to them yet. Attitudes were great, smart kids and they participate well. I will be incorporating language arts into tutorials as well in our upcoming sessions. No extra practice was left, just suggestions for mental math strategies. Good session with both students."
"We covered integers in algebraic equations. We also detailed the number line, specifically working on adding and subtracting negative numbers in equations. We worked on equations that may be slightly ahead of the student's current school pace to help understand multiple addition, subtraction and multiplication equations."
"We covered items included on the test the student took on Wednesday that he was a bit shaky about: set theory notation, functions, identifying the domain and range of graphed relations, and a few other items. The student was fairly good with most of the items, but my discussion cleared a few things up. We will set up further over the weekend or next week depending on what is introduced next."
"We covered linear equations, word problems with expressions, and solving for a variable. She was not struggling, so much as rushing. She gets so excited when she figures something out that she does it quickly and does not check her work. If she slows down and checks her work, she can avoid small mistakes that make a big different in the grade she receives."
"We covered linear functions and their graphs. He had several packets from his teacher's website, which we worked on. They were from Chapter 3.3 and the 2 preceding sections. He had some difficulty determining the slope based on a linear equation, but I had him practice several times on sketching the line. He worked with interest and average motivation. He had a couple sheets left for additional exercise to practice on his own. No grades or scores seen for noting progress. It helps when he prints out the lectures and exercise sets from his teacher's website. "
"We covered logarithms and rules concerning them. He already had some understanding on some of the identities of logarithms, but really needed to master converting between the exponential and logarithm forms. After providing models showing the links between the two forms, he had little trouble maneuvering through problems. I also provided some exponential rules as well as some additional logarithm properties to help him master the material. He left the session with a better understanding of the topic."
