I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a current sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh, currently majoring in Neuroscience on the Pre-Med track with a certificate in Women and Gender Studies. Throughout my time in high school and college, I have participated in many conversations surrounding social justice and inclusivity. In high school, I was involved in several clubs, including Black Student Union, Greenhouse conservation efforts, and Speech and Debate, all of which shaped my interests in writing, public speaking, and critical theory. I have experience teaching younger children in both public schools and religious Sunday schools. I enjoy tutoring a wide range of subjects, especially English. I love working with students on essays and helping them find their voice while sharpening their critical thinking skills. I also enjoy teaching History and Math, which were subjects I found especially engaging in both high school and college, as they each help students connect with larger concepts and systems of thought. I've seen meaningful growth in students I've worked withwhether by guiding them through practice problems in preparation for math exams or helping them develop stronger writing skills. Outside of tutoring, I'm passionate about cultural criticism, social justice, and women's rights. These interests not only inform my teaching but also allow me to connect course material to broader conversations that engage and motivate students. My teaching philosophy is rooted in patience and compassion, as I believe every student is unique and deserves to learn in an environment where they feel accepted and empowered. I aim to make every tutoring session an inclusive and inviting space for students to share their questions, ideas, and goals.
