Hi! My name is Rhys, I'm a recent graduate of the University of Cambridge and I have been tutoring for three years. In high school, I used targeted revision and developed a foolproof essay structure to get top marks in History, Politics and English Literature. My degree, with a focus on medieval topics, involved analyzing literature, history and languages. I am happy to tutor in any of these subjects and share my interest in the discovery and debates around them with students!
Having learned French and German to fluency in and after high school with specific methods of language learning, much of my tutoring focuses on these languages as well as Latin. I have always been passionate about language learning, and I believe in carrying this over to my lessons. For both beginners and advanced speakers, the primary route to proficiency is in speaking and engaging with the language as much as possible to get a deep understanding of why and how different parts are important. In essay subjects, I have learned to appreciate that even the most important themes and events cannot be made interesting if they are only seen through textbook-based rote learning. Rather, constant questioning and discussion is a much more effective and enjoyable way to retain information. English, History and Politics involve a large amount of content, but in my lessons, I encourage that this not just be memorized and left behind but applied to improve exam technique and grow interest in the subject.

My favorite things to read include English Romantic poetry - my favorite is John Keats - and Shakespeare, and recently I have read several plays by the French author Jean Racine. I also spend a lot of my time watching basketball.
