I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Richard: Reading tutor

Certified Tutor

I am currently a senior at the University of South Carolina expecting to graduate with degrees in finance, real estate, and then pursue a degree in contract law. Throughout my high school career, I served as a tutor with The Tutoring Center, helping children K -12 on a variety of subjects including history, writing, reading and math. Now in college, I co-instruct 1st year student classes though the University's nationally renowned Peer Leader program. My philosophy in tutoring is simple: I want to equip every student with the academic tools to succeed on their own and build their confidence in academia. I often find that many students genuinely want to understand their material, they just aren't sure how to approach it and that's what we work on. Generally, my favorite subjects to tutor are probably history and math because it's interesting to see how both factor into everyday life, especially history. Within my lessons, I like to keep things relaxed and my style relies a lot on the back-and-forth discussion between the student and myself. Studying can already be stressful as it is, and in my experience creating a light-hearted environment really helps students. Outside of academia, I enjoy hiking, music, and I live for the Olympics.
