Nelson Mandela famously said, "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today."
As a dedicated educator for the past ten years, those words still guide my teaching philosophy as I help my students achieve their educational and professional goals. With a culturally relevant, narrative-based pedagogy, students deepen critical thinking skills and focus on creative problem-solving all while understanding that language - in terms of the human condition - is the foundation of all academic disciplines.
Career-wise, I've had the honor and privilege of teaching diverse student populations, both locally and globally. Starting off as a university instructor at the University of Colorado Denver, I've taught first generation, non-traditional and traditional college freshmen with a focus on interdisciplinary academic applications in a way that promotes student agency, helps students focus on individual goals, and shows the value of writing across the disciplines.
Further, I've had the honor to live and teach in Beijing, China, for CU Denver and am TESOL certified. Additionally, as adjunct faculty, I've had the privilege of teaching Rhet/Comp and ESL at multiple academic institutions throughout Colorado including CU Denver, Metropolitan State University, Community College of Denver, and Red Rocks Community College.
In 2017 I decided to transition to teaching High School English so that I could help students bridge the high school/college experience. I started at Venture Prep HS as the ELD Coordinator and Teacher, teaching both integrated and designated ELD courses before transitioning to DSST:GVR HS where I taught CU Succeeds/Senior English (concurrent enrollment).
I'm honored to have experience at both the secondary and collegiate level as both educational levels inform each other in terms of pedagogy and skill acquisition.
