I am a recent graduate from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. I received a B.A. in chemistry, with an environmental studies minor. I am originally from Loveland, Colorado, and I am returning home after college to save up money and gain experience in the workforce.
I have participated in competitive swimming since I was in 5th grade, and I just finished my last season with the Lawrence University Swim Team in February. It was from swimming that I gained my first teaching experiences. Throughout college, I have held one-on-one practices with undergraduate students to help them improve their swimming strokes. In addition, in the summer of 2017 I participated as an assistant-coach at a swim camp of young swimmers of ages 6-16.
I began playing clarinet in my middle school symphonic band, and continued throughout high-school in marching band and symphonic band. I also participated in the Lawrence University Symphonic Band for my four years of college. Creating and sharing music has been an important part of my life, and I hope to keep this value as I move forward in my career.
During the fall semester of my junior year of college, I studied abroad in Costa Rica in a program that focused on sustainable development studies. I found this experience to be very impactful, and since then, I have continued to practice speaking, listening, and reading in Spanish. From this experience, I also learned that I am seriously passionate about the environment, and eventually I hope to use my chemistry knowledge to fight some of the world's largest environmental issues.
The culmination of chemistry courses that I have taken at Lawrence University has lead me to become a well-rounded expert in the field. I feel incredibly lucky to have formed bonds with each of my professors in subjects such as organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, and biochemistry. Each of my professors has shown me their love of teaching, and their incredible desire to help and mentor students in one-on-one office meetings. As a tutor, I hope to emulate this passion to my students, so they feel comfortable and excited to learn.
