Matilde: Arlington Heights tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a UGA student majoring in Psychology/Neuroscience and minoring in Biology on the Pre-PA route.
I have been tutoring since I was in 10th grade. I started off tutoring for children in the neighborhood. I then spent a couple of years working for the K12 education center where I helped middle school students with homework.
In High School I took 2 years of Chemistry, and even though it was stressful, I was absolutely fascinated with the subject. I continued taking 2 more years of Chemistry at UGA, and I realized that I had a knack of explaining difficult material to my peers. So, I started tutoring for UGA. I tutor General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, but my passion is mainly towards general chemistry.
I place emphasis on teaching a student how to analytically look at a problem and how to use the tools they're given to approach a new issue. Like the philosophy of teaching a man to fish means that they are fed for life, that is how I approach a student when it comes to learning. My goal is for them to have a solid foundation on material so that they are capable of higher order processing.
When I am not tutoring, I love doing relaxing activities like reading or drawing. I love hanging out with my friends and hosting movie nights. If my friends allow it, I would make cheesy chemistry puns every now and then. But don't worry, I only tell those jokes periodically! I hope tutoring helps you out with your classes!
