I graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with my M.A. in Psychology. Following graduation, I worked as a counselor, psychological associate and, finally, as a Special Education teacher. After teaching Special Education for several years, I stayed home to homeschool my own three children through graduation. During that time, I continued to teach and work with children in various settings: homeschool co-ops, Girl Scouts, 4H, private tutoring, classroom elementary and middle school teacher, etc. I have also tutored adult students in ESL, GED, and more.
I tutor in many subjects, but I most enjoy teaching ESL and reading. Having strong reading skills is essential in all subjects! I love those 'a-ha' moments when a concept finally clicks for a student!
I understand that each student is different, and flexibility in my teaching is an absolute necessity! Regardless of what style works for a student, I always try to bring an element of fun to it, as well as praise and encouragement for effort and even the smallest of successes.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, crocheting, bird watching, photography, and learning ASL and Spanish.
