I am an English and writing tutor. I have a BA in English from Roosevelt University. During my time at Roosevelt, I tutored in English, writing, history, and study skills. I also taught an honors seminar course and volunteered as a writing tutor. I've taken several classes in secondary and post-secondary education. I have experience tutoring special needs students, including gifted and autistic students. I have experience tutoring ESL and ELL students across disciplines. I am a passionate tutor that will work tirelessly with any and all students to get them to shine. I believe every child has the ability to excel.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student deserves to not just learn the material but to understand and form their own opinions about their education.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I want to get to know my student. I want to assess where they believe their strengths and weaknesses are, what they are interested in, and where they want to go in life.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I believe in asking questions and encouraging students to delve deeper. I know some study and memorization tricks, but those mean nothing without some level of understanding.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Students need praise. They need to learn in their own way and form their own opinions; they just may need someone to guide them to that "ah-ha!" moment. Once they have confidence, they can tackle anything.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
We'll go over it again and again. I'll ask them to tell me what they think their doing wrong, and I'll guide them to where they need to be.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I believe that it's best to break something down. Instead of reading a whole chapter and hoping to absorb the information, I'd have the student read a sentence and tell me what that means. Start at the most basic level and build upwards.
