Certified Tutor

I enjoy assisting students in achieving their goals. I see my role as a facilitator of their learning processes, rather than as a top-down authoritarian figure. Learning is about understanding and applying that understanding to the task at hand. My role is to facilitate understanding.

I have a Master's degree in English and have spent many years teaching and tutoring English. Since I began reading at an early age (around 5 years old), I have been fascinated with words--both reading them and writing them. That fascination led me to want to share my passion for the English language with others, which led me to teaching and tutoring, along with my own writing for newspapers, nonprofit and for-profit corporations, magazines, the Web and other sources. I have taught or tutored children from elementary through high school age, as well as college students and working adults who wanted to improve their reading comprehension and/or writing skills. I bring the same level of enthusiasm to each student, no matter what age.

Aside from teaching/tutoring English, I am fortunate to be married to a wonderful man, and we are the proud "parents" of three dogs: small, medium and large! I enjoy outings such as hiking and boating, I have good friends, I like to cook and entertain, and I enjoy art and music of many different genres.
