I graduated from CU-Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. When I first graduated, entering the job market was anything but easy. But soon, my love of and expertise in writing became my greatest advantage when it came to making a life for myself, and more importantly, finding enjoyment in what I do.
In the past, I have tutored several students on how to become better readers and writers (in my mind, the two go hand in hand), both for academic purposes and personal growth. My experience has ranged from spelling and mechanics with elementary and middle schoolers, to college essay organization, and test preparation with high schoolers. I spent time in college helping friends and classmates fine-tune extensive thesis papers, edit personal statements for graduate-level programs, and yes, even spelling and mechanics!
As I am sure you have noticed, my passion and experience rests in tutoring reading and writing. I love writing, and I truly believe that everyone is capable of putting together a great novel, a smart essay, a concise speech, or a well-written screenplay. These days, many students see writing as a burden -- a long paper over the holiday break or busy work they can skirt. With writing, there is not always a correct answer (sometimes there is, like with "there," "their," and "they're," but we will get to that later), and for some that can be scary, but for me, and hopefully the students I tutor, this is the greatest blessing. Writing is about putting your personality and mind into words, and once students come to this realization, writing is not such a burden anymore. I love being able to help students squash that mindset.
In my spare time, I love to practice my photography skills, cook without recipes, play with my dog, shout loudly as I watch sports (my favorite is college basketball -- Go Jayhawks!), and watch documentaries about zombies, the 1960s, and sport scandals.
