Certified Tutor
Hi! My name is Rachel!
I'm from Cleveland and have two twin 5 year old boys and a 15 month baby girl. I work as a part time professor while writing my dissertation in Urban Education from The City University of New York, Graduate Center. I have a Master's Degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Spanish from the University of Toledo.
My grandmother is from Brasil and my first experience with Spanish was in high school. For my sophomore year, I lived in Alicante, Spain. When I graduated, I started teaching Spanish at the high school level. I worked with students before and after school, and I really enjoyed getting to know each and every one of my students. After teaching at the high school level, I taught three years of Spanish at the college level. I tutored students weekly, as well as during my office hours.
I tutor all levels of Spanish, focusing on conversational skills while strengthening grammatical skills. I use whiteboards, creative writing exercises, songs, and short films to practice and strengthen skills. I enjoy tutoring because learning Spanish is fun and the culture is beautiful! I also enjoy getting to know and learning from students. While I'm not teaching and tutoring, I am with my beautiful and growing children and family!
I look forward to working with you ~ have a great day!
