Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We had a free conversation to warm up, and then a pop quiz to review the previous lesson. For the new lesson, we went through the vocabulary list and then the dialogs paragraph by paragraph to solve the problems of pronunciation, meaning and grammar. After finishing the first 1/3 we stopped because the time's up, and I left her homework of grammar practice and background knowledge of Chinese traditional festivals. She is a quick learner, and just a little struggle with some certain pronunciation rules."
"Today we started a new topic: household. The student and I did a small simulation on ordering in a restaurant before and after the session. Then I introduced the vocabularies of household. As it is the beginning of a new content, I did not add grammar or phrases but the words of things we use at home. She really did a good job on memorizing the new words. I had her repeat all the words along with the audio and myself if needed."
"We reviewed the workbook covering reading comprehension, translation, and grammar exercises. We also did listening exercises from the prep book."
"I first helped the student finish her only homework assignment sheet of the day, then I did dictations on this week's vocab. she did very well, made only a few mistakes the first time, and made almost no mistakes at the second time."
"We had a brief review of greetings and the character 'na' today before we started our lesson. Then we learned about nationality, country names, city names in China, how to ask people where they are from and how to answer these questions in different situations. We also learned several common last names in Chinese and how to use the character 'shui'-who in questions. How to answer yes/no questions was also covered in today's lesson."
"Today, we reviewed a lot of vocabulary, some grammar points, and useful sentence structure. We then read again three small books with objects based on color. We then went through all related vocabulary. We continued to learn lesson 9 Part 1 in the textbook. We learned new words while reading the texts. We went through all animal words in the book ''Noah's Ark.'' I encouraged the students to use Chinese as much as possible during class. I gave them each one sheet to practice writing characters as homework. We watched on YouTube a famous Aesop fable story ''Sheep and the Bad Wolf,'' and then I asked them questions on the story. I asked them several questions after the video to make sure they really comprehended the story."
