"Student A had math and English homework today, which took most of our session. He had to figured out some word problems about place value for math, which were a little tricky but we had a great discussion about them and he put in some great effort. One of the problems required him to take what he already knew and apply it to a new situation. This was a bit challenging for him, but once we worked through it together he was able to get the hang of it. For English, he had to identify whether certain phrases were sentences or not. I let him do this on his own and then checked it. He only got one wrong and we worked through why before he fixed it. Student B and I worked on some reading and writing, as well as a couple math problems. I had her look at few simple sentences and choose the best word from the box to fill in the blank. She complained a bit about this exercise, but was able to ready most of the words on her own while I guided her with my finger on the page. She then completed a sheet were she had to sort words into 2 lists based on whether they had short a sounds or short i sounds. She did spectacularly with this! We finished up with some math problems where she had to add small numbers together."
"I worked on the following concepts during the session: Math: greatest common factor (GCF) and prime factorization Reading: vocabulary and comprehension. For this session, I provided mostly homework support. For Math, we went over finding the GCF for 2-3 numbers. Also, the student was able to use prime factorization to find the GCF. For reading, he had to do vocabulary work by placing the correct word in a sentence. In addition, he had to answer questions from a reading passage. He was able to pick up the concepts very quickly. For math, I showed him how multiplication can come in handy in finding factors of numbers. His attitude remained positive, and he worked diligently."
"I worked on with the student on blending, singular, and proper nouns. We also worked on writing, and how to locate details in a story by highlighting important details. We also worked on plural, singular, and possessive nouns. In addition, we worked on sequence of events and keywords to look for when a story transitions to a next event."
