Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student made the teacher's corrections and wrote a final draft of her second creative writing assignment. We also revised our reading schedule for "Treasure Island.""
"The student is working on a very interesting paper this week; it's also in Turabian, so we worked through that new style. The paper is coming along, but it needs more work before it's ready to turn in. She is working on corrections and we will review either tonight or Monday!"
"We worked on personal narrative writing with adding dialogue, actions, sensory details, adjectives, etc. We also went over journaling about our reading/books using character jots, predictions, and connections."
"I worked on the following concepts during the session: recognizing sight words and high-frequency words and reading comprehension. The student did an excellent job in recognizing a lot of sight words and reading them in sentences. I used the strategy of echo reading and pausing when a sight or high-frequency word comes up so he could identify and read it himself. He continues to be positive and engaged to learn. For reading comprehension, we read passages together, and I would ask questions about the story, and he would have to recall the details. He has shown tremendous progress."
"I worked with the student on reading and writing practice. He summarized the story of "The Loving Tree," and we also continued reading new material. Finally, he did some clock-reading practice near the end of the session."
"I worked with the student on reading Around the World in 100 days. We read from pages 19-38. She did the majority of the reading herself. I did read at times to model for her. We also stopped at certain intervals to talk about what we read. I interjected by asking her comprehension questions. She was able to clearly discuss what she read and to answer all the comprehension questions I asked."
