Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student took his Biology test, so he didn't have homework for that class. Instead, we spent the entire session working on outlining world studies. First, we looked at the bold headings in his textbook. I asked him to define "consolidation" and "unification", and when he couldn't I gave an example of each. He could then define the terms. Next, we browsed and discussed the picture, maps, and their captions to gain a sense of what we would be reading. We each read paragraph by paragraph silently and then the student pinpointed the main idea of each or we discussed the main idea if he wasn't sure. Lastly, the student paraphrased the main idea into a single point or sentence on his outline."
"We spent this session getting on the same page. We went over the course syllabus, made sure I had access to all of her readings on the student portal, and discussed the format of the midterm. Then we went over studying strategies and scheduled the rest of our meetings leading up to the test on Monday."
"The student and I began our session by completing her assigned reading of Chapter 3. We then switched gears to composing the first draft of the paper for her architecture art history course, and she completed the draft. She plans to refine it before we meet again."
