"In this session we went over exponential growth functions and their applications. The student understood the overall concept well as she has seen it the growth and decay functions before. Overall, student did really well and I left her with more practice for her upcoming midterm."
"During today's session we began by discussing limits, the difference between two-sided, right handed, and left hand limits, and the general process for solving problems with limits. After reviewing this for a bit, I introduced the equation for the definition of the derivative. I used this to explain the concept of what the derivative is and why it is used to find the slope of tangent lines. We went through an example together of solving the limit which defines the derivative of a function. I then used that example to show how we could write the equation for a line tangent to the original curve. After this, I explained the general manner in which the derivative of a polynomial can be determined (multiplying exponent by coefficient and reducing the exponent by one). We went through a few examples using this strategy, and ended with one more problem about finding a line tangent to a curve at a given point. To finish, we briefly discussed the topics we could cover for our next session."
"Continuing with general review, we spent time on integration procedures, when to split up a fraction and when to use integration by parts. We spent time working with parametric equations and working on graphing them both from a parametric view and from a rectangular view, and when to decide which approach to use."
"We worked on mostly derivatives and integrals. She is a great student and she knows most of her information. She needs more practice on knowing the basic rules of integration and derivatives. We will continue to work on this."
"Today we are reviewing completing squares, rational functions with all the properties, arithmetic and geometric sequences and series, and different quotients. The student is getting used to most of the terms and methods."
"We reviewed simplifying expressions with fractional and negative exponents as well as solving exponentials by putting everything in terms of the same base. We also practiced working with logarithms and solving exponential functions using logarithms. We practiced using the change of base formula to solve logarithms with bases other than 10. Lastly, we talked about how to calculate the momentum of an object and how to use the law of conservation of momentum to solve collision problems. The student is doing well working with negative and fractional exponents."
