Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student and tutor began by discussing student's poems, translations of his English verse into Spanish. Tutor pointed out some improvements to make Spanish more idiomatic and grammatically correct. After a short conjugation drill, and a discussion of important irregular verbs, the tutor engaged student in a conversation about his daily routine. Finally, tutor assigned student some homework for next week involving "ser" and "estar.""
"The student had a very important Spanish test coming up. It is very challenging to learn a new language and she is really putting forth a good effort. She understands the basics and the conjugations. Now that she is in a more advanced Spanish setting the teacher expects a lot from her. Despite the level of difficulty she is still above her class average and we will focus each day on improving her grade."
"Today the student and I worked extensively on when to use the preterite and imperfect past tense forms. We also covered the irregular verbs and the conjugations that went with each of the different forms (ar/er/ir/imperfect/preterite). We mostly reviewed completed worksheets and discussed why she chose a particular form and which rule she used to support her choice."
"We worked mostly on Spanish, and a bit of American History. The student is continuing to work on the future and conditional tenses in Spanish. Since he and his brother are in the same class, they were able to collaborate somewhat. I checked over his work and found him making some small errors which I pointed out."
"We went over lesson 3 and practiced translating from English to Spanish and vice versa. We ended the session by reviewing the days, months, and seasons. Next time we will begin with a quiz. The student will also begin practicing passage translation in writing starting next week."
"We conversed in Spanish about a future trip to Peru. The student mentioned all of the places he would like to visit there. We talked about tourist attractions, geography and the terrain in this country. He has an extensive vocabulary base and does extremely well with lengthy conversations. He showed me his last two graded assignments. Both his assignments were nicely structured, with complete sentences. He did a good job, using very advanced verb tenses and excellent vocabulary. We started on chapter 4, which is about food and ordering in a restaurant. He read the vocabulary and I corrected his pronunciation for certain words. We looked at the key phrases used in a restaurant. We role played a short scenario of ordering food in a restaurant. He did great!"
