Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session the student and I worked on a presentation that he has to give in class on the painter Rena Magritte. The student had the presentation already completed and we went through it and I offered comments on how to improve the presentation. He had to rework the presentation in French and did a very good job. The student continues to be enthusiastic about our sessions and works hard. I am very pleased with the progress that he is making."
"We covered all verbs in the first 3 units. We looked at errors made on the last test. I also reviewed the irregular verbs in the past tense, as well as -er verbs requiring changes."
"The student and I went over topics on his French final which is scheduled for Monday. We went through the topics such as the si clauses and using more than one pronoun in a sentence. I left him with another review sheet to try and complete before his final."
"We started the session off with a set of discussion questions in French to use both to break the ice, and learn some basic information about each other (things like "Where are you from?" and "Why are you studying French?"), as well as to give me a chance to assess the student's general level in spoken French. She hadn't had much previous experience using French conversationally, so for the rest of the session we used a combination of spoken and written French in order to practice both while ensuring she was able to follow and understand. She said she was hoping to mainly focus on preparing for French 3, but that she was still having some difficulties with the past tense from French 2, so we went through a series of exercises on the usage of past tense, discussing each question after the student answered it. She did seem to be answering the questions more accurately and easily by the end of the session."
"For this session, we studied vocabulary for the new chapter. With 10 minutes remaining, we practiced reading comprehension with an extract from one of my old textbooks. The student is not a fan of my old textbooks, so he is going to find our next reading practice text."
"This was a one hour session during which we reviewed the previous material and worked on the following: verbs of the 2nd group and their conjugaison at the present and imparfait tenses. New words were introduced as we started to discuss specific situations where the student showed her understanding of particular rules."
