Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed for his test that he had the next day. We talked about the simple past tense and went through practice questions covering Spanish culture."
"We went over the work I had assigned during the previous session. We also had a conversation and discussed Por and Para at length."
"Today we covered the difference between the present, preterite, and imperfect tenses. I gave the student activities related to finding and using the correct form and tense of the verb. We also covered identifying where the stress lyes in a word and figuring out whether it is "agudo" (deep) or "llano" (shallow). I also spent a little more time on indirect and direct pronouns and made sure he was totally comfortable with them. He told me he had a mini quiz on them and he felt he did well. We ended with some mini quizzes, and he scored pretty high on all of them. We made good progress today and I feel he really understood the topics."
"This chapter of the student's textbooks has four dialogue units instead of the usual three, so it's taken us an extra day to get through it and move on to the next one. Today, we did that, and I assigned him some character review for homework. I think his reading skills are at a great level for his age and experience. We always have a good time and cover a good chunk of material when we meet."
"Today we started with the "Five Chess" warm up to review some of the previously learned words. Then we reviewed pinyin, numbers above 100, and Q & As. I checked their homework. Today's focus was conversation. we spent most of time on listening and talking, to refresh their memory of dialogue. We put together sentences they've known before into more complicated forms. The homework is to prepare at least 6 sentences as a self-introduction."
"We continued to work on food, including dumplings, buns, bread, and noodles. The student drew pictures of each and practiced writing Pinyin and characters. I think matching the pictures with words helped him to remember them much better."
