"The student had a scenario from her statistics course and needed confirmation about which test to run in SPSS. I walked her through the process of selecting a test, which includes defining the dependent variable and noting which type of measurement is being used, whether the question is about measuring the difference between groups or examining the relationship between variables, and whether or not she was asked to use the data to make predictions. We then defined the IV and its levels and type of measurement. We settled on one-way ANOVA, and I confirmed her process, including her post hoc tests and how to interpret the results."
"I helped the student with hypothesis testing today. More specifically, we went over the t-test. I gave her an overview of the procedure, then I had her perform a t-test using an example her teacher had given her from a worksheet. She initially had some trouble with interpreting the p-value. By the end of the session, she understood what the p-value was and could perform the t-test without help."
"We worked on problems in chapter 17 and the student finished her next quiz. Chapter 17 involved hypothesis testing and the quiz had problems from chapters 12, 15, and 16. She seemed to better understand hypothesis testing after we had worked on some problems, and was starting to get the hang of how to interpret the p-value."
"Concepts covered: combinations and permutations, additive rule, conditional probability, Venn diagrams, independent vs. dependent random variables, mutual exclusivity, and continuous vs. discrete random variables. The student reviewed chapters 3 and 4 of his Statistics textbook in preparation for his exam."
"Today, we covered the chi-squared test. The student did the homework assignment connected to this section. Then, we went over a discussion question assignment where he had to identify the null and alternative hypothesis from a research paper. I showed him how to find the paper, and he worked on a description for it."
"The student and I focused on Lesson 7 (chapters 12-13) for this morning's session. We did a number of concept-based and computation-based practice problems involving odds, different types of risk, and analyzing contingency tables."
