The student and I worked on money problems and conversions. She enjoys working with money so we did a few long division problems that involved coins. She had a quiz this week that she received a 6/10 on and it was all about conversions. We worked on a few more conversion problems and I believe her problem is that she gets confused on when to multiply and when to divide. She seemed to do much better with me today than she had done on Tuesday.

The student and I reviewed for her upcoming test. She is currently studying decimal division and multiplication. I made up similar review questions and quizzed her on them. She got each one correct. She has a strong command of the material. She is also receptive to suggestions. For example, I showed her how to check her answers after dividing. It seemed to help her a lot. I am confident she will continue to do well in the future.

The student is still ahead of her class so we reviewed some stuff she hasn't been so sure about in our lessons recently. I started her on functions and lines (mostly so she could get used to seeing x and other variables) but we abandoned that to look at area and measurements. I explained to her the mnemonic King Henry Died Unusually Drinking Chocolate Milk (Kilo Hecto Deca Unit Deci Centi Milli), and we went over the differences between length, area, and volume. She is clearly understanding middle and even high school level topics and she's only in 5th grade. We will hopefully be using variables more often in our lessons, and I hope to get her to use them without me prompting her to do so.
