Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We did general, broad review of the whole semester's material including logs, factoring, complex numbers and simplifying based on a review packet she had completed a couple weeks ago. I think most of her minor mistakes could be remedied by reviewing basics (like squaring quantities and neater work). Strategies for this session were to encourage her to spread out her work and allow herself to use more paper in order to help keep her work neat. Extra practice was book review."
"On Thursday, the student and I kept working on his math packet. We also worked on creating definitions for the vocab words in his English packet, and for each word I ask him to come up with an example from the book. During the matching terms section, I read the definition of a word and had him identify the word and an example from 1984."
"We worked on the unit circle and calculating exact values of trig functions. The student was able to redraw the first quadrant of the unit circle. The goal for her is to memorize the unit circle, so she can use it to solve problems."
"We went over solving a linear system of equations by the corner method and solving setting up a system of equations from a word problem. The student has very good conceptual and computation skills required to both understand this material and to do very well in this class."
"The student and I had a great session. We were able to go over some parts of speech he didn't feel confident with, and he identified a few others he would like to go over for next week. We went over his most recent math lesson from the week before, as well. We also went over his math test from the previous week and worked out the concepts he needed help with. He will retake the test next week."
"The students and I began working through the review packet for their final exam. They had no problems with the accentuate the negative section. They had a few questions on the stretching and shrinking unit, and we'll continue to go over it on Tuesday. The first student got through the comparing and scaling, and expressions, equations, and inequalities sections because she works very quickly. Both girls understood the material we went over well, and we'll continue to review questions they may have on these units and the material they continue to do in class."
