Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today I tried to help the student rely less on counting for multiplication problems. However, part of her method to memorize her times tables has been to remember them in a sequential order, and I believe since this works for her, there is nothing wrong with it. For extra practice she has a color-by-number worksheet and a game to show her parents how to play."
"We printed out a couple of algebraic worksheets which covered solving multi-step equations and learning the distributive property. Although the problems were challenging, the student enjoyed doing them. I assigned him to finish the rest of the worksheets on his own. Next time, I'll see how much he remembers about solving multi-step equations and how to apply the distributive property."
"The student had homework for translating inequalities as well as a review packet for an upcoming assessment. She did really well with both pages, but looks for guidance throughout when she isn't confident in herself."
"Today, Student A and I worked on defining vocabulary words. He struggled somewhat with pronouncing some of the words, however, he was able to master the words by way of pronunciation. He had a great attitude, and is a lot of fun. He was left with a book to read and instructed to write a report on it. Student B and I worked on another writing assignment that dealt with life without the Declaration of Independence. She did an excellent job, and was excited to write down her ideas for the paper. She was very active and present in the session. Every now and then she would switch to a conversational tone, but immediately would catch herself. She did a great job with pre-planning and completing a first draft."
"We worked on math strategies for addition. We also developed strategies for place value. We used the textbooks as well as the whiteboard. Positive reinforcement strategies helped maintain focus."
"We worked on fractions to prepare for the student's upcoming fractions test. He did very well adding and subtracting fractions, but we had to spend extra time on dividing shapes into equal parts, putting fractions in order, and working through word problems."
