"We looked over her diagnostic exam. We spent the bulk of our time working through concepts she was struggling with. She has a very strong foundation as far as conceptual understanding goes."
"We went through her teacher's assigned AP questions for the day. For next time, we agreed that I would solve the IB exam and be prepared to solve all of the problems in the time allotted. The IB exam is given 45 minutes per session so we will work diligently to finish under the time constraints. She will complete 1 sample paper per session for the next three sessions to see what the IB exam will be like. This will help her test-taking ability as well as her fundamental understanding of physical concepts."
"The student and I covered chapter 14 over buffers and acid base titrations. She scored a B+ on her midterm before spring break! We will be moving on to AP prep next week."
"Today the student and I focused on reviewing for her upcoming test. We especially focused on mole to mole ratios, writing chemical equations, unit conversions, and word problems. She is doing much better about catching her own mistakes as well as determining how to go about solving a problem. She did struggle a little bit with following the units at first, but became much better as we went along. She is a very enthusiastic learner and I have no doubts she will be able to master this quite soon."
"We covered the fundamentals of nuclear chemistry (fission and fusion reactions) including half-life calculations, behavior of unstable and stable isotopes, and stellar processes (generation of heavier elements from hydrogen through iron and supernovae elements). We also discussed the stable element ratio curve and the nature of neutron to proton ratio and how it affects stability of nuclei. At the end of the session we covered nuclear reactors and how they function."
"For this session, we looked at the remainder of the student's practice exam and re-visited the same concepts from the previous session. Such concepts include: Diels-Alder reactions, electrophilic substitution reactions, and Friedel-Craft alkylation/acylation. Her improvement was without a doubt noticeable this session. Her ability to create and understand resonance structures - and mechanisms in general - was much higher than before, and I made sure to point it out to her. It's evident she has been putting forth a considerable amount of effort. I look forward to hearing back from her and seeing how she did on her exam."
