Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the passage we read last time and went over the questions. To keep him focused, I tried introducing him to a game where correct answers would be rewarded. This seemed to engage him a little more and we finished the questions together. With the time remaining, we read one more passage and then wrapped up."
"This was a introductory session for us. The student did a writing sample for me, so I was able to assess his writing skills. I went over the errors in his writing sample and discuss with him what he could do to improve his writing skills. I gave him a homework assignment (writing prompt)."
"The student has a vocabulary quiz tomorrow covering a long list of difficult words, so we spent the session preparing her for that, with mnemonic devices, roots and etymologies, and example sentences. I left her in good shape."
"The student worked on his English paper. The assignment was a character analysis for Pride and Prejudice. He formed his thesis statement and then we spent time preparing the paper. We looked for quotes to support his argument. He compiled the paper."
"We read Act II of Macbeth and answered questions on the act. I also had him write out a summary of each chapter to help him study later on, and it seemed to help him understand the play a little better. I think he gets nervous because it is hard for him to interpret the material, so I told him to stop rushing through it, and to take his time and think about what he is reading; It is okay if he reads slowly. After that we started outlining the next chapter in Forensics, ballistics."
"During this session, I helped the student edit her poetry analysis paper, in which she had a solid draft. We implemented some of my suggestions. She is a good writer!"
