Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"On Monday, the student worked on her Spanish project which was writing a song in Spanish. She rewrote some of the words to make the song flow better and easier to remember and she practiced it several times."
"During this session we continued working on talking about the past tense. I introduced the imperfect and we practiced talking about things that happened during childhood. We also learned how to combine the imperfect and the preterite, in situations where an action was interrupted. I assigned the following homework: write ten sentences using the structure "Cuando era nino..." and ten sentences with the structure "[imperfect] cuando [preterito].""
"The student and I had a review of estar and subject pronouns. We also did a review of gender and number and making sure that they all agree. We worked on pronunciation, introducing yourself, greetings, talking about yourself, and did a review of accents. We also worked on conjugation of AR verbs and new vocabulary."
"During our first session, the student and I reviewed material for an upcoming test. She went through a study guide provided by her teacher and I offered feedback and assistance. The main concepts we looked at were stem-changing verbs, the present progressive verb tense, and the differences between the verbs "ser" and "estar." We also looked at some vocabulary and prepositions. Towards the end of the session, I wrote and asked some sample questions/ examples for her to practice what we had reviewed. She seemed to pick up on the grammar concepts with ease. I am confident that with additional tutoring sessions, she will have success in her Spanish course."
"In today's session, we went over verbs in the present, past, future, and conditional tenses. We worked on combining multiple single ideas into single sentences using connecting words, and we read through a picture book that the student had to read, working on his reading comprehension and looking up the words he did not know. He is a very bright student. His vocabulary will improve with time and exposure to Hispanic culture and television."
"In this session we focused on studying for the student's upcoming test. This test covers reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary. We covered vocabulary first. The vocabulary ranged from activities in the park, hobbies, hotel, rooms, services, board games, etc. For each vocabulary word he had to write a sentence. At times he used verbs from the chapter and also used already acquired verbs. As he recently learned the conjugations in the future tense, I encouraged him to use them, when possible, but did not enforce it too much since we were working on vocabulary. I think this session was productive because we covered our goals for the first part of the review. I asked him to study the vocabulary we learned and to keep going back to the sentences he wrote."
