Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed the forms, uses, and differences of the two past-tense verb forms and the two "to be" verbs."
"We reviewed Chapter 1 of the student's Spanish book. We went over the present tense of regular verbs, stem changing verbs, and the present progressive. We then went over exercises in the textbook, homework, and quizzes."
"We reviewed the placement of direct and indirect object pronouns, then spent the rest of the time reviewing vocabulary for the second half of her final exam. Her retention of the vocabulary she had reviewed was excellent! She's still concerned about her ability to apply her vocabulary to sentence completion questions, so I talked with her about strategies for them."
"We covered building blocks from class - plural pronouns (we, us, they/them, you all), modifiers (all are / all are not), possessives (mine, yours, theirs), and building sentences using those building blocks with vocab from previous sessions. The student has a very good ear for pronunciations but struggles with remembering words. It helps for him to write the pinyin while reading the characters, and read aloud a few times to practice remembering the vocab."
"We reviewed initials, finals, and four tones. The student learned very well and practiced a lot after class. However, it's a bit difficult for him to pronounce two or three characters as a word. I will help him more later. I asked him to preview Lesson Two for the next class."
"At the beginning of the session, we briefly went over the dialogues and grammar points from lesson 1 and practiced sentence translations. We then spent half of the session reviewing the writing of vocabulary from lesson 2. The student was able to write out most characters. Afterwards, we reviewed the contents of dialogue 1, lesson 3, specifically on date and time telling. It was a lot of information for her. Assignments for this week include reviewing dialogue 1, lesson 3, and vocabulary from lesson 2."
