Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight, the student and I worked on vocabulary assigned for her to study in preparation for her semester final and did an overview lesson on reflexive verbs, as many vocabulary phrases she had questions about involved reflexive verbs. She asked many good questions, and I worked to give her reference study sheets to continue working from."
"The student and I worked on her understanding of the Present Subjunctive tense today. She has an upcoming test on Tuesday, so mastery of this one topic was the focal point. We worked on simple sentences, conjugations, and finally paragraphs using the subjunctive. She seemed to have a better understanding at the end of the session."
"The student and I started our first session together reviewing material for his test on Monday. We reviewed passive "se" informal commands, present progressive, and reflexive forms in the present tense. We also went over how pronouns are used in all these tenses. I noticed improvement on conjugation throughout our session. He shows a good basic understanding."
"We covered the present and past subjunctive tenses in Units 6 & 7 and discussed the story in Unit 6. The student will complete Units 8-10 over the next two weeks."
"We practiced impromptu oral comprehension and expression through discussion of the student's favorite movie and video game and least favorite video game, then worked on reading comprehension with the French Wikipedia page on video games, before finishing up with practice of past participles."
"We started by going over the worksheet the student did between sessions, which reviewed imperfect/perfect past tenses and relative pronouns. She did very well on these topics, so we were confident in moving forward. Today, we tackled the future and conditional tenses. They're extremely useful and quite similar. We started with the regular verb conjugations by finding the future stem and using the correct endings, and then we moved on to irregular verb stems. For each separate topic, we did a quick exercise to make sure the topic made sense in context. Some of this was review for her, and some was new, but she completed and understood all topics very well this session. We also spent time working through a listening activity with some vocabulary and culture surrounding workers' rights, unions, and strikes in France."
