Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I worked on his homework in addition to working on concepts in math preparing him for second grade. Specifically, we worked on subtraction and addition with double digits, in addition to working with skip counting worksheets and multiplication practice. Working with him through worksheets, combined with repetition, seems to be helping him work learn his multiplication tables. Talking with his parents, future sessions will look to include grammar and language arts practice in addition to second grade math to prepare him for next year."
"The student and I had a pretty good session today. She did not have any homework, so we worked on a variety of topics. We started with her reading a book. Next, we did an addition worksheet. I tried to show her some other reading worksheets that I thought she would like, but she said she did not want to do them. We finished the session with some more math problems, a reading game, and a math card game. I am hoping to find some more interesting reading things for her, so that we can build these skills over the summer. I'm looking forward to our session next week!"
"For the first half of the session, the student and I worked on telling time. I introduced the ":15" to the half hour and the full hour times that she was already familiar with. We then went on to practice some simple subtraction (examples including 11-7 and 15-10) for about fifteen minutes. To end the session, she read a book about cats."
"Today the student practiced telling time (making the time for herself and writing the time down), counting money (recalling the coin amounts and adding the amount together to a specific number), addition and subtraction using a number line, and adding and subtracting base ten blocks. The student did very well with telling time and adding and subtracting today. One area I would like to focus more on next week is using money. The student tended to need a reminder on the coin amounts and she needed assistance adding the coins together. Overall the student did great today; she stayed focused most of the time and was engaged in the activities!"
"The student and I worked primarily on percents and how to determine those from a variety of fractions. We did our best. I think he understands the material."
"Today we started reviewing for the student's final exam. We were working on conversions (pints/ cups/ half gallons/ gallons/ ounces/ fluid ounces). We also did measurement and perimeter. She had to measure to 1/8 of an inch. She did a good job."
