Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session we discussed the student's past test and went over take home quiz. We discussed the difference between matched pairs and two sample t-tests. He seemed to understand the difference after some explaining. No extra practice or concerns."
"We covered linear regression and residual plots today. This session went very well; It seems like getting some data and using it practically is really critical for her. I left her with a bit of homework, making a scatter-plot from some data in a spreadsheet program and examining the residuals."
"The student has a statistics lab due tomorrow, and he wanted my help understanding some of the concepts needed for it. The lab mostly dealt with regressions, and using various formulas to obtain them. He had done some reading from the textbook, so he better understood mean and standard deviation. We talked about how the regression equation is just like slope-intercept form, which he learned in algebra. We also looked up some of the formulas he needed to know for Excel."
"Today, we discussed about estimating parameters using simple random samples. Concepts included definition of an estimator, bias, standard error of the estimator, standard error of sample mean, bootstrap, and standard deviation of the sample. I tried to give an example to all of the new concepts and we did some problems afterwards. While working on the problems, I noticed that she was very comfortable with all those new concepts and she was able to complete all of the problems on her own."
"The student and I covered a few topics thoroughly, including z-scores, null hypothesis testing, and p-values. She seemed to grasp these concepts well, in that she was able to do sample problems at the end of the session."
"We went over elementary probability and statistics: null hypothesis testing, research methodology, sampling techniques, z-scores, t-tests, ANOVA, regression lines, variance, standard deviations, etc. He has definitely been gaining confidence in solving problems. His exam is tomorrow and he feels more comfortable than he did before the session."
