"Student and I continued our revisions of chapter twelve from her book by working examples and problems from section six on derivatives and the properties of the gradient. She did really well calculating the partial derivatives but had a few struggles with vector operations like finding unit vectors."
"We worked on gathering information about a function in order to simulate the graph of the function. Information included checking for symmetry, finding any asymptotes, determining if the graph crosses any horizontal or oblique asymptotes, and finding x and y intercepts. After that we looked at some application problems."
"The student has a test tomorrow on his polar coordinates chapter. We went over a study guide his teacher gave him for class. He came into the session with a solid understanding of the chapter and left feeling confident he will do well tomorrow."
"In the session today, we reviewed the topics that the student has been going over in class. Overall, he did well with selecting the correct formulas. I encouraged him to take his time and focus on each little step to try and avoid a simple algebraic or calculation error."
"We reviewed for the unit test on vectors. We practiced finding the vertical and horizontal components of a vector from its magnitude and direction. We used two points on the xy-plane to create a vector from one point to the other. We reviewed what unit vector form of a vector looks like and how to find it from component form or magnitude/ direction form. We practiced calculating the distance between a point and a line as well as the distance between two parallel lines. We went through determining if a pair of vectors were orthogonal, parallel, or neither. We practiced finding the angle between two vectors by using the dot product and their magnitudes. Lastly, we practiced working with vectors in three dimensions. The student is doing well working with the component form of a vector both in two dimensions and in three dimensions."
