Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed for his exam. We covered practice questions from his practice exam and touched on all topics in preparation."
"We worked on naming of compounds, Lewis structures, acid-base reactions, and conversions. the student's seemed to renew grasp on conversions as well as writing net ionic equations."
"During this session we mostly focused on chemistry and physics. In chemistry, we talked about the different states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases and the different properties that matter can have when in these different states. We covered how volume and shape can be described for solids, liquids, and gasses (i.e. solids have a constant shape and volume whereas liquids have a constant volume but not shape, etc.). We discussed how temperature and pressure influence matter and facilitate changes between states. In physics, we discussed the concept of acceleration. We talked about how acceleration can be plotted on a graph of time vs. velocity, and how to calculate acceleration. I emphasized the importance of using units when calculating acceleration. I assigned reading in both chemistry and physics for our next session. In math, we went through a challenge problem that tested the properties of parallelograms and finding angles. The student had trouble approaching the problem on his own, but understands the concepts we were covering. I will continue to work with him on how to set up problems and think through them step-wise and logically. We briefly began discussing literary concepts, particularly making predictions while reading based on past knowledge and contextual clues (e.g. a character description or a flashback showing a character's past experience). He had a good understanding of these concepts and enjoyed the use of Harry Potter to discuss symbolism and foreshadowing."
