Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent most of the time going over "real world math" in the test prep book. This included fraction and decimal operations, percentages, and percent increase/decrease. We did several quantitative comparison, multiple choice, and free response example questions of each concept. We then went over a reading comprehension strategy, in which he identified the type of passage (a passage addressing a problem or a cause/effect) and then analyzed the passage through a series of questions."
"The student and I warmed up by reviewing the reading comprehension that she had completed during our first week together. We then moved on to our first look at the writing section of the GRE. We built a structure that she could use to address the different points she needs from the perspective of the ETS. This cuts down time needed for organization as well, which provides more time to flesh out the discussion within the essay. She practiced an analyze an issue essay to practice this approach. We finished our session by reviewing some geometry principles and practicing related questions."
"I provided the student with a new resource which was my old GRE book. We went through a practice test of Quantitative Reasoning. I also went over the format of the book and showed her ways that she could beneficially use it."
"The student and I worked on an outline for her responses to the argument essay portion of the test. We also completed a practice quantitative section of the test focusing on some strategies to help her. We finished by practicing some verbal reasoning questions."
"Today, the student and I went over problems from a practice set that he completed. We worked on the way that he reads the problems and writes down all of the information. In general, he is getting better at the problems."
"Today we reviewed combinations and permutations. The student does really well with them now, but her confidence is still a little low. We also did word problems. She is really good at identifying pieces of the puzzle and building the puzzle. Tomorrow she is going to do a practice test."
