Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Continued to work on quiz preparations sheets. Learned about theorems related to perpendicular angles."
"This was my second session with the student. We did a short review of last session's topics and then we covered some new material about circles including a theorem about intersecting chords and how to decide if a given line is tangent to a circle using the Pythagorean theorem."
"The student and I worked primarily on Geometry, reviewing for a test coming up. The student was still struggling with some of the definitions of concepts, and memorizing theorems, so we went back over a lot of definitions and then she did fine on that part of the review. For the last half hour, we worked on a story she and her classmate are writing together for French class, and corrected and went over their mistakes."
"Covered triangle congruency. Mainly, proving congruency, SAS, SSS, and HL theorems. The student did a wonderful job, though sometimes made some minor errors with triangle vocabulary, i.e. obtuse, scalene, etc. She did seem much more comfortable with this unit though. She was also happy to report a great improvement on her usual scores."
"The student has an A in Geometry and is really grasping the concepts. She's much more confident in her studies and it's something I really enjoy watching. She also received an A on her English Paper that we worked on last week so I am really impressed by her progress. Overall she is doing a great job and I am extremely proud of how far she's come."
"The student is very bright. He is taking advanced Chemistry and Advanced Geometry/Trigonometry. We covered both chem and trig in this session. Chemistry topics, 4 types of reactions, balancing reactions, and predicting formulas. In Trig we covered polynomial functions, parent functions, maximum/minimum values, and x/y intercepts as well as all equations."
"During this session, we worked on a Geometry project that she had due that week. We worked on graphing figures in 2D versus in 3D and we picked objects around her house to graph and draw to scale. She did very well and understood the concept and was able to explain it herself for her project very well."
"We went over the homework that I assigned the student last week, which was to correct the problems she initially got wrong on her Chapter 1 test. She had the most trouble with segment addition and clock angle problems, so I gave her extra practice with those. I assigned her the rest of the Chapter 1 practice problems. We also began taking notes on Chapter 2."
"We continued exercises proofing congruent triangles and covered right triangles congruence. We worked on identifying the necessary parts to prove congruence of right triangles using geometry laws (i.e. definition of perpendicular lines, definition of midpoint, etc.). The student has a test on Tuesday covering material from the last three sessions. She is beginning to build confidence in herself and her abilities."
"In chemistry, we worked on converting temperatures from Celsius to Kelvin and from Celsius to Fahrenheit. We also worked on identifying "cold" vs. "hot" when given a temperature in any unit.
In geometry, we worked on the "hinge theorem" and qualitatively identifying sides and angles in triangles."
In geometry, we worked on the "hinge theorem" and qualitatively identifying sides and angles in triangles."
"We completed the chapter review together, and I asked her to do the chapter test in her book to get ready for her make up quiz and test tomorrow. She feels fairly confident with the material. We will be resuming with the next chapter after break."
"We reviewed chapter 5 and worked on a chapter take home test. We covered triangle theorems. I think its important that the student memorizes the theorems she's learned up to chapter 5. These theorems will be used in future chapters. Gillian struggled with the test. Next week I will review some of the theorems to see if she understands them."
