Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I talked briefly about his packet on home-playable sports for his Lifetime Sports class before moving on to begin reviewing for his upcoming batch of World Studies quizzes over European exploration. To supplement the material in the book, I provided additional information to give further details and help him better understand the events and people being discussed. Next week, we will likely continue studying history, although he did mention having some Composition work to begin examining as well."
"Today the student and I discussed her homework, which included two reading, two math, and one writing sections. She did a fantastic job on the reading sections, scoring in the high 700s, but continues to need work on the math and writing sections (though she is showing a great deal of improvement!). As we went through these sections, I took pains to highlight a variety of strategies for approaching math problems, and also distilled principles with which grammar questions can be fluidly tackled. Additional homework was assigned for next week -- our last class together."
"Today we worked on equations and graphing of ellipses. We concentrated on doing his homework and understanding all aspects of the graph. This included vertices, focal point, and major and minor points. "
"The student has met with her academic advisor and has decided to use her remaining hours to earn a minor. We met today to go over the requirements for various minors and select courses for the Fall term. She has decided to attempt a political science and an anthropology minor. She also enrolled in 3 Fall classes, and only needs to select one more. She also begins her first summer course today."
"Multiplication review. Placed value and fractions. The student did not learn fractions in 3rd grade, therefore, this is her biggest challenge. She knows her multiplication facts, she just needs to slow down. I will need to address these issues with fractions and place value."
