"Today, the student and I covered inverse trigonometric functions and how to derive their derivatives using implicit differentiation. We did both the inverse sine and cosine functions for practice, and then expanded our toolset by using the chain rule on more challenging problems. We then started covering related rate problems using an expanding balloon as an example and modeling it as a sphere. She had to find the connection between the rate of changes of volume and radius to solve the problems. During our next session, we will cover more geometric shapes and use them as examples to also practice implicit differentiation."
"Worked with the student through 2/3 of an assignment on setting up integrals to calculate volumes from revolving an area around the y and x axes. He should make sure to pay attention to small details in the algebra and arithmetic, as these are the only things that are preventing him from completely solving a problem from beginning to end."
"Today, we continued to review material for the student's Chapter 7 quiz. Topics included partial fractions, improper integration, and trigonometric integrals. He is beginning to get a hold of the fundamental concepts that he has been lacking. In particular, since last week, he has memorized the derivatives and integrals of all of the elementary trigonometric functions. He still has a long way to go, but he has made significant progress since he first began receiving tutoring. I look forward to seeing him on Tuesday."
"We went over Riemann sums and substitution calculus as well as integration by parts. The student says she has a midterm on Friday so we went over example and practice problems. She was really good with the problems as she remembered most of her integration techniques from last semester. She just needed to go over and memorize a few concepts. I assigned her a few problems for next time because we took a short time going over the concepts."
"We worked on the most used integral solution techniques. The student had a good understanding of them."
