Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started reviewing from the beginning of the year and worked mostly with naming; ionic naming (with and without transition metals), acid naming and covalent naming, as well as ability to recognize these types of compounds. The student is a little weak in it but was motivated and was getting stronger by the end of the session. I gave him some naming to practice with and also asked him to review and memorize the polyatomic ions (I gave him a list) and gave him strategies to help with -ite vs -ate ions and bi- ions. Next time, we will look forward to empirical formulas and chem equations."
"Today's session was used to review carbohydrates, specifically focusing on the difference between monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides. We also looked at glycoconjugates and their purposes in the body. The session ended by practicing converting sugars between the Fischer projection and the Haworth projection. My goal is to see to it that all basic concepts are well understood and that he is able to reproduce the results on paper. I am going to re-quiz him next weekend so that I can make sure that the knowledge is properly being retained. We will be finishing up carbohydrates next weekend, as well as any new material in the class."
"Reviewed torque, moment of inertia and angular acceleration. Worked homework problems from the book and assigned extra problems to get more practice. Student had difficulty converting some units (rpms to rad/sec) and calculating moment of inertia for a system of particles. Practiced extra on these concepts, then did a few extra problems with rotational and linear motion combined."
